Bellevue
Painting Description
Bellevue, the beautifully restored former home of Sir John A. MacDonald is located in Kingston. It is now a Parks Canada site and provides an interesting counterpoint to the boyhood home of W.L. Mackenzie King at Woodside. Perhaps because the Victorian era does not seem so distant we can more easily relate to that historic period. I remember quite well the imposing engraving of Queen Victoria that hung in my grandmother’s hall. See also Image # P0474 John A. MacDonald’s House (Sketch for).
