Before the Crop

Painting Description

From a slightly elevated spot along the highway just north of Hawkesville, I had the good fortune to witness the preparation of the fields for spring planting. The fellow in the front of the painting is breaking up the soil for the seed drill that we see over by the barn. This farm also contains a sawmill that provides work for the second generation of this family as well as for some Old Colony Mennonites from Mexico who have immigrated.
