Amish Boy Preliminary

Painting Description

This Amish lad in his green shirt, straw hat and his suspendered pants is typical of the many men/boys one sees around the Milverton/Millbank area.

In the Mennonite or Amish culture, lads of 14 years do man’s work. They are eager to prove their worth and their strength. The heavy work at a young age does not seem to do any harm to them which is somewhat mystifying. They are happy.
