Afternoon Punting
Painting Description
Strolling beside the river in Oxford, England in search of an advertised but hidden garden, we were distracted by punts with their occupants gliding through our view. Taking that pleasant experience and transplanting it into the setting of Erdesland in Herefordshire formed the basis for this Edwardian re-creation. By moving houses to enhance the look, this painting grew with additions from the Canadian Carriage Classic and file photos from archives in Toronto and Calgary. Because the Edwardian fashions were so fixed, it is possible to blend information from many sources.
