Gardens Open For View is a scheme that was started years ago to raise money for local charities in Britain. An attractive yellow-covered book tells which private village gardens are open each weekend. Serious gardeners visit these openings, pad in hand, ready to take notes on the various varieties of plants so that they might return home to imitate the fantastic displays that they have witnessed. Just as with food, when it comes to gardens, I am an enjoyer not a practitioner.
