Painting Description

I very much enjoy the chance to paint a new subject from an unusual angle. Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is built as many old European cities are, with a defensible high ground surrounded by the town down below. A view like this, from the ramparts, also allows us to see the true construction of the lower town, not only the street layout but also the false fronts of some most imposing buildings. We visited Estonia for only one day as part of a cruise. How uplifting it was to see the Baltic optimism of that country as it worked to regain an economy lost to Soviet occupation.
