Tending the Flower Beds

Painting Description

I have long been fascinated by the architecture of the typical Mennonite farmstead. With no concern for colour or style co-ordination, additions are placed against existing structures. Space is the only reason that amendments are made. As the family grows, often including grandparents and aged aunts or uncles, new pieces are built. This architecture is a tangible expression of the Mennonites’ concern for community, looking after their own.
