Start of the Auction

Painting Description

Moving around the area near the barn, the auctioneer deals with wagonloads of equipment, harness and then finally some household items. Only when articles from the house are auctioned do the Mennonite women show any interest. In the meantime, and that includes most of the day, the women stand in small groups visiting, exchanging news. After all, this is a day out.
