Painting Description

There is a separate private world within the perimeter of a Mennonite farmstead. In this area, Pennsylvania German is the language used. Entering this patch are very few people that are not known. Indeed they are most likely related. This is a peaceful area with only the sounds of the wind and of the farm animals, mixed with the sounds of playing children. No radio or T.V. voices or traffic sounds clutter the air. I am very much drawn to the tranquility of these quiet spots. I am not suggesting that these yards are dull— no, there is much activity as shown here on this farm just off Benjamin Road, but there is a harmony in the soft sounds that are present here.
