Scotney Castle in the Rain

Painting Description

In 1998 we rented a house in Kent for four months. We day-tripped around Surrey, Sussex and Kent, visiting points of interest to us. Scotney Castle is a place that we visited four times during that rainy stay. Although rainy weather makes painting on the spot difficult, the grayness of the air does add a lovely patina to the view. The pale aqueous quality of this piece makes this view very soft and unifies the colours. P.S. Scotney Castle is very near The Trout, a pretty pub that crouches on a hill overlooking the castle grounds.
