Resting West of St. Jacobs

Painting Description

Pausing while working the field does not necessarily signal a huge problem. Concern for the horses or the equipment as well as a stone or other obstacle may be the cause. This farm is across the road from the Home Hardware warehouse.

Working a field with horses is a long and tedious job. Stops or rests are part of the job. I remember so clearly the answer to my question of a man who had stopped at the end of a row of ploughing. “What do you do while the horses are resting?” He replied, “I think”. Seems strange to modern society.
