Prepared for Sugaring Time

Painting Description

This detailed painting of a sugar bush at rest features the stacks of waiting wood in a bush near Crosshill. Often, for me, an inanimate object can make a great feature for a painting. In this piece, I was pursuing the mysterious quality of flickering light through the half-fallen leaves. Visiting a sugar bush in the off-season reveals a different world from the active time in spring when there are sounds and movements of men and horses. This painting is very peaceful.
