Painting Description

This young Mennonite man was chosen as a preacher by the lot system. He has no formal training but rather relies on divine inspiration.

The Mennonite tradition of the “plough preacher” continues. Because he is chosen by lot, without formal training, he is very much on the same page as the rest of the congregation. He receives no compensation but rather makes his own living as a farmer.
