Painting Description

Comfortable and inviting this oak paneled room with all its antique furniture tells the story of the family. Bouquets of flowers from the garden enhance the room’s appeal.

I went into this “castle”, which is really a medieval manor house, with the idea that I might find a subject that charmed me. This room welcomed me. In a castle you expect to find an austerity fitting the military building, but here the luxury showed an establishment that contained traces of luxury going back to 1300 when it was built. My interest in painting this interior owes much to the inspiration from the wonderful interior paintings of Susan Ryder, a British artist.
