Meeting House Line-Up

Painting Description

The heart of the Old Order Mennonite social order is the preservation of the group, the brotherhood. For that reason the attendance at the Meetinghouse is crucial from not only a theological standpoint but also for social reasons. Given that this group is small and tremendously intermarried, their fellow worshippers are also their relatives. Many of the guidelines that are decided by the clergy are set along social concerns rather than theological ones. For that reason, an issue like the use of the telephone is not scripture driven but rather decided on by what is considered best for the cohesion of the group.
