Loading Sheaves, Crosshill

Painting Description

It would be strange to have only one man loading sheaves so let me assure you that there were two men behind the wagon helping with the task. Even with a crew of strong young men, it must be daunting to face a large field of stooks that are ready to be loaded onto the wagon. Notice that the sheaves on the left lay flat on the ground because they have been “de”stooked due to dampness.
