Furniture Maker

Painting Description

Many Mennonite-owned businesses have sprung up in the countryside. It is only reasonable that as land becomes too expensive, new ways of generating income outside of agriculture would be found. Furniture making is one of the favoured specialties. Often these craftsmen sell directly to the public from showrooms on their farms. This painting shows just such a person taking home wood from the mill just east of Hawkesville that was owned by Edmund Martin.
