Early Spring from the Tower

Painting Description

The tower that is referred to in the title is one of the few intact pieces of an Elizabethan country house near the village of Sissinghurst, Kent, U.K. Remains of the interior and exterior walls were used by Vita Sackville-West to form rooms for her various gardens. We had the good fortune to watch this garden change from the lace of spring to the full coloured tapestry of summer. The tower, eighty feet high, provided a wonderful birds-eye view of those creeping changes.
