Country Bridge, Kent

Painting Description

This high key painting was developed over a sketch in wax pencil of a one-lane bridge near Frittenden where we lived. Driving a rented, clapped out, maroon Renault 4 which I loved, I approached this bridge with great caution, given that it was impossible to see oncoming traffic which, in rural areas, flew along the frightfully twisted country lanes. In fairness, I never heard of terrible accidents on this bridge, or even on the roads/lanes that wove drunkenly through the green fields.
