Cottagers’ Road, Parry Sound

Painting Description

I have approached this painting from a design/technique standpoint. This is a drawing tinted with watercolour. The initial line work was produced in ink with a fine but floppy brush that is perhaps most associated with Chinese writing. Using that very flexible brush produces a somewhat unpredictable line varying in width and intensity. Before adding the watercolour, I added ink drawn with a sharpened stick. This is an approach that I have used on and off for almost forty years, starting with the idea in art college in Toronto which was in the heart of Chinatown.
