Cape Breton Shoreline

Painting Description

The cliffs just off Keltic Lodge at the tip of Cape Breton provide a view of the sea as it rolls in from the northeast. The sea, the foam, the striped rocks and the trees provide such a variety of possible subjects. Working from ten or twelve separate photos, I have put together a view that I hope intensifies the feeling of that coastal area. I accentuated pieces of the scene to create a view that in reality does not exist. Perhaps in a way I am involved in creative non-fiction just as Edna Staebler was when she wrote of Neil’s Harbour which is not far from Keltic Lodge.
