Buggy Maker, Milverton

Painting Description

Confusion reigns in the yard outside of an Amish buggy maker near Milverton. New buggies and repaired buggies or cutters share this cluttered yard. See also Wagon Maker’s Yard, Image # P0084 and Buggy Maker (B), Image # NN064.

Solomon Jantzi is a traditional buggy maker at a crossroad near Milverton. Using saws and other equipment that are powered in the old fashioned way, off a belt, he fashions sleighs, cutters and buggies not only for local users but also for clientele from across North America. See Running the Big Saw, Image #1566D. Just down the road, his sons run a very modern buggy shop using hydraulics. These fellows are charming and interesting.

This small painting is a good example of how I “think” better in paint. Clearly this piece was not taken too far as I sorted by visual problems.
