Breslau Dam

Painting Description

On a lovely late spring day I stood by the dam just minding my own business. The view, as you can see, was tranquil, peaceful, calm. Almost from the minute that I started to paint I was approached by a succession of residents from the village. Perhaps someone spotted me from a kitchen window and raised the alarm. People who came to my easel on foot, on bikes or in cars or pick-up trucks were pleasant and interesting. I received, over the hour that I stood there, an accounting of the history of the village, the changes made to the dam, and various versions of a robbery that had happened weeks before just down the road. Sometimes I think that I should run a tape recorder and write a book rather than complete a painting.
