Painting Description

I showed the Homer Watson House and Gallery as it would have been in 1931. The cars are appropriate to that time frame. Homer Watson is pictured on the front porch. He died in 1933. Although Doon is now a part of Kitchener, at that time it was a rather sleepy small village on the Grand River. This burg had already at that point passed its peak of activity as a milling centre. As I painted this piece in public at the K-W Art Gallery, I heard countless, fond stories of people’s weekend trips to Doon, to Silver Lake (now a subdivision) and to Homer Watson’s Gallery. I titled this painting, Autumn in the Village, because although a particular spot, it exemplifies any village of that era.
