White Bridge, Lower Slaughter, England

Painting Description

The sign on their table said “Reserved”, but as we watched the couple at dinner in our Cotswold hotel, we quickly realized that they were anything but reserved. Following dinner, we retired to the residents lounge for coffee and there had a chance to meet this British couple. Ken worked for the Australian Bank in London and Iris was a housewife. We palled around with them for the rest of the week, darting around the tiny villages and towns that form the fabric of this mellow-coloured piece of England. Although we have since returned to Lower Slaughter several times, there are always in my mind the memories of our first acquaintance with this storybook village in the company of Ken and Iris.
