Saone River Village
Painting Description
One of an innumerable number of small settlements along the Saone River in France, this village was built around a ferry crossing. The ferry no longer operates. As with all old hamlets in France a church tower is a definite must.
I noticed this small hamlet as we cruised the Rhone and Saone rivers in 2000. Places like this just beg to be painted as they fulfill all my romantic notions. I realize that I tend to see what I want to see. There were many other rather ugly places that have just slipped from my memory.
