Queen’s Birthday, Denmark

Painting Description

The military band of the Danish Guards shown in this painting performed in Canada in the autumn of 1997. Through that event I was invited to witness their dress parade for the birthday, in April 1998, of Queen Margaretha. The day was, unfortunately, wet, wet, wet. From my vantage point in the guard’s tower on the Amalienborg Square, I was able to witness the warm response of the Danish people to their sovereign. That day was one of the most outstanding of my life.
