Each painting that I produce starts from a visual spark. In this Christmas piece of hauling the Christmas tree, the starting point was a small pinto pony that grazed in a tiny field near Millbank, Ontario. Small but round, this little fellow exuded character and lead me to think just how he could be employed. Since Christmas was near and my mind was on getting a Christmas tree, this idea grew in my imagination. An examination of my photo files yielded the man and boy as well as the red sleigh. Later on that week by chance during one of my country drives, I noticed the setting not far from Crosshill. My motto in painting is change everything but make up nothing.
