Leaving the Service

Painting Description

It is difficult for the public to understand how the sense of community revolves around the meetinghouse. Because the community is far flung by horse-travel standards, the chance to visit a church ten miles away is very attractive. Since everyone from that area attends that church, there is a wonderful opportunity to meet everyone at one time. The Mennonite meetinghouses are for me an exciting tableau with all the activities as people leave the church. These scenes have an energy that is hard to find anywhere else in Mennonite Country. This meetinghouse is in the low bridge road just west of St. Jacobs.
