Inspired by Rodmarton Manor

Painting Description

Another of the murals for the Janet Lynn’s Bistro, this piece shows a famous private garden that used to be open only two days a year to the public. A Sunday opening for charity allowed us to visit this outstanding garden in the Cotswolds. I am embarrassed to admit that when we visited this garden in 1986, we had no idea of just how highly regarded it was. Later,  I learned from a garden history book that Rodmarton Manor is a famous example of Arts and Crafts style. Using an Alfred Hitchcock device, I shot myself painting at a French sketchbox easel. In the left corner, Spoof, an aged puss who lives at Philipsburg, Ontario, tries to get a rest.
