Faces of Winter

Painting Description

I was inspired to produce this painting by an auction near Hawkesville that I attended one cold January day. Most of the people attending this farm auction were of various conservative horse and buggy groups. Although the conservative groups are quite similar in dress and customs, this painting illustrates differences such as beards or the use of tobacco. I wanted to assemble a variety of ages and poses. At one level it reminded me of the design problem-solving that I encountered in my first year at the Ontario College of Art.
