Painting Description

This young Amish man lives three miles north of Millbank and has driven to town with his team and sleigh to pick up several bags of feed. Since jobs on the farm are seasonal, the winter is a time for a bit more leisure.  In this painting I changed very little from the actual view that I saw. I found the balance of the red of the sleigh against the grey-blue of the landscape most attractive. Often I am motivated to paint as much by colour and design as I am by subject.
