Christmas Morning

Painting Description

I painted this view from my second floor studio window on Park Street in Waterloo for use on my personal Christmas card. I have a strong affection for this woodworking shop across the road because it reminds me of all the tiny businesses that I got to know as a child. The relaxed atmosphere of workrooms that have never known a time-and-motion study, desks dangerously heaped with bills, reports, magazines and boxes of rubber bands and paper clips, work benches cluttered with a salad of mechanical stuff, garages like Russ Erb’s on Regina Street where the office smelled of old pencils and cigars— all embrace me with a kindly feeling.
