Painting Description

This is one of the most complicated paintings that I have ever done. I wanted to record my view of this most traditional of neighbourhood activities that once happened in Mennonite country. I am sorry to say that during the most infrequent barn constructions big tractors and cranes are now employed. A barnraising is such a fun-filled as well as work-filled event. It is a time to gather and visit as the work goes on. Although I have not attempted portraits in this piece, I have endeavoured to show character types. I hope that both the turmoil and the joy show through in this “signature” painting.
