Back Garden Trellis

Painting Description

This trellis supporting its load of roses bisected the back garden in our fifteenth century weaver’s cottage in Frittenden, Kent. The end of the trellis was anchored by a giant oak. Against this tree a ladder from the lawn to a platform was the mounting block to ride a giant swinging ship’s chain that had been rescued from a beach in Cornwall and hauled the width of the country to spend its twilight years as a jungle gym.
