Accents of Red

Painting Description

In some ways I suppose, you could consider me an abstract painter. I am attracted to patterns and shapes, patches of colour, and designs of light and dark. In this painting, based on a Mennonite farmstead in the St. Jacobs area, I am exploring those patches of bright red that in some ways seem out of character with the rest of the restrained colour. This approach is not really unusual. A painting that you probably know, Whistler’s Mother, is actually titled “Study in Black and Gray”.
